Hernán Darío Velásquez Saldarriaga, alias "El Paisa," also known as "Óscar Montero" and "El Paisa Oscar," commanded the FARC's Columna Móvil Teófilo Forero, the guerrilla's most violent mobile column, which terrorized the Caquetá region. The column killed congressman Diego Turbay Cote and six others near Florencia in 2000, and in November 2001 it bombed the artist's family home, an attack the artist's father survived. Velásquez signed the 2016 peace accord, returned to arms, and was killed in Venezuela in 2021.
His portrait, a photomosaic of thousands of images of the 2001 attack, was created for transformé and destroyed by a machine over the two days of the exhibition at the Studio de création en arts numériques (UQAC, Chicoutimi, 2014). One production, one destruction.
