Gustavo Enrique Malo Fernández is a lawyer from the Universidad de Cartagena, a specialist in criminal and forensic sciences from the Universidad Externado de Colombia. He served as municipal criminal judge, criminal investigating judge, superior judge and, from 1989, magistrate of the Superior Tribunal of Cartagena. He taught at the universities of Cartagena, Rafael Núñez and Libre.

Malo Fernández was elected magistrate of the Supreme Court in October 2012.

In the years that followed, Malo's own trajectory was reversed. Removed by the Colombian Senate in 2018 and convicted in the "cartel de la toga" judicial corruption scandal for selling rulings, he was sentenced to more than nine years in prison, a conviction upheld on appeal.

His portrait, a photomosaic of 4,800 images of the family's destroyed home, of the cell where the artist's father was held, and of the home at the time of the arrest, was created for déformé and destroyed by a machine over the course of the exhibition at Galerie l'OEuvre de l'Autre (Chicoutimi, 2013). One production, one destruction. Five years later, the same face returned, rebuilt in jam labels, in his Marmelade portrait.
